About the Medical Program

The program for medical degrees is designed according to the recent advances in medical education. We adopted the outcome-based curriculum using widely accepted knowledge, skills and professional behavioral outcomes.

  • The studies take the form of integrated courses which aim at motivation and relevance.
  • One of our aims is to qualify our students for international postgraduate degrees. Already some of our graduates are preparing for British and US examinations.
  • Finally, Nile University is expanding fast but our focus is still on quality resources and management. (Read more).

 

The MBBS degree in Medicine employs an outcome-based curriculum based upon the educational standards prescribed by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). The program’s integrated coursework objectives to motivate students to excel and prepares them for international postgraduate degrees.
The methods used are those which combine attendance to students needs with effectiveness. Students participation development of social responsibility and self- study habits is one of the topmost goals. The methods of student’s assessment are selected according to the objectives of the courses with diligent attention to setting of standards.

Objectives of the Programme

The design of the program of studies and the learning experiences shall help students to:

  1. Develop a high standard of moral and professional ethics.
  2. Acquire learning skills in the direction of self- reliance, confidence and techno-competence so as to pursue continuing and postgraduate studies.
  3. Be capable of integrating knowledge of structure and function at molecular, cellular, organ and whole body levels.
  4. Apply basic medical information and knowledge of the mechanisms of disease in solving health problems at the level of the community, the family and the individual patient.
  5. Develop a comprehensive approach to patient care including psychosocial aspects of health and disease.
  6. Acquire essential skills in dealing with outpatients, in-patients and medical emergencies.
  7. Accumulate knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for communication, rapport and fostering a climate of confidence and cooperation with patients as well as other members of the health team.

Welcome to the Faculty of Medicine, Nile University. We set out to provide our students with a friendly and comfortable learning environment. Our goal is to qualify our students for both ethical and professional medical practice.
Students are expected to make the best use of the learning resources and learning experiences offered by the Faculty of Medicine, Nile University. 

A good student will make an excellent and professional physician. Let us all have a positive attitude to teaching and learning. Extracurricular activities are encouraged through the Students Association and organized by staff and students, these can be college or community-based. 

Their aim is to develop the value of social responsibility and to participate in community development.

Medical Programme activities

Student Field Work:

Students organize fieldwork to further their learning objectives in community health care and social responsibility. (link fieldwork).

Student-lead exhibitions:

Our students participated in a nation-wide exhibition for universities in (6/2013) and were awarded first prize for their presentations (link: Friendship Hall exhibition 013).

International Recognition:

Federation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research
(FAIMER): Faculty of Medicine, Nile University, is registered by the International Medical Education Directory (IMED) of FAIMER. This registry gives recognition to the Faculty of Medicine, Nile University, MBBS Degree, which enables students to apply for registration with the General Medical Council in the United Kingdom (GMC-UK) and the Examination Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) exams in the United States. 

World Directory of Medical Schools (WDMS): Nile University is registered in the WDMS which has been developed through a partnership between the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) and the (FAIMER) in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the University of Copenhagen. It is sponsored by the (GMC-UK), (ECFMG), Australian Medical Council, and the Medical Council of Canada. 

Partnerships and Affiliations: Ministry of Health Partnerships: East Nile Hospitals and Health Centers, Hag Alsafi Hospital and Ahmed Gasim Hospital. Ministry of Higher Education: Nile University Degrees are recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education (M of HE)., Nile University, is drawn upon by the M. of HE Committees as consultants and members of working groups. Faculty of Medicine is registered with the Sudan Medical Council. The Nile University staff are drawn upon as consultants for committees and accreditation assessors. Nile University is a full member of Sudan Universities Association, and a member of Sudan Medical College Association.

Medical Research Activities:

The Faculty of Medicine, Nile University possess various research interests and activities. One of the areas receiving growing interest recently is that of the “metabolic syndromes.” Diabetes, hypertension, and obesity are becoming more and more prevalent as urban habitats and life style change, necessitating investigation. Additionally, many faculty members are particularly interested in genetics and molecular biology. Senior faculty members have well known publications in subjects as varied as tropical diseases, mycetoma, malaria, nutrition and gastroenterology.
