About the department

Anatomy is primarily the scientific study of the morphology of the human body. It is subdivided into gross anatomy, microscopic anatomy, developmental anatomy and neuroanatomy. Gross anatomy is the study of anatomical structures that can be seen by the naked eye, whereas microscopic anatomy is the study of minute anatomical structures. This evolves into the field of histology, which is the study of the organization of tissues at all levels. Anatomy is recognized by Nile College as one of the key medical sciences in addition to physiology (study of function), and biochemistry (study of the chemistry of living structures) for students studying medicine. Knowledge of anatomy is required for all doctors (especially surgeons) in addition to students of radiology, medical laboratory sciences, dentistry, and other students of biological sciences.

On completion of the medical education and training program, the medical graduate should have a working knowledge and understanding of:

1) The normal structure, function, and development of the human body and mind.

2) The interactions between body and mind at all stages of life, and to understand the factors that may lead to abnormalities.

Research Activities

The field of research is vital to the long term wellbeing of the population, the growth of the economy, and to the experience of the individuals participating. Nile College is constantly searching for partners to help extend research in academic and specialized research. Researchers at the individual level of almost all the teaching staff are participating in several various researches, mainly for academic degrees.

External Relations

Nile College currently holds relationships nationally with other departments in different medical colleges within the Khartoum, in addition to outside institutions at a professional and individual level (Dongula,Kassala, Bakht Elrida, etc.)

Department Activities

Nile College has the potential of forming an anatomy student association comprised of the students that will provide seminars along with and other activities. These include modern and hot issues such as the medicolegal aspects of dissection, embalming, stem cells, brain death, and organ transplantation.
